PYQs
09:22pm In India, there is an exam for everything. In fact, your skills and experience matter less than exams. This had to happen in a country with the highest population in the world. Be it companies or the government, people need a quick and cost effective method to filter candidates, although I am not saying exams actually work as a good filter. Anyway ... so I am also stuck preparing for an exam!
The exam is JEE. People know a lot of religions like Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, but many do not know about a religion called JEE. It's a relatively new religion. In this religion, the final aim is not to achieve attain happiness or peace. Instead, the aim is to enter a heaven called "IIT". This heaven's gatekeeper is something called the "JEE". This is the gatekeeper eighteen lakh students fight diligently every year.
I am also part of this cult. My job is to solve PYQs (previous year questions) like a robot. I feel like I am some character from a George Orwell novel at this point. I have been solving around hundred questions every day. This is the sacrifice or the price you pay to enter the heaven. You sacrifice your sanity. Some people also call this meditation. Solving so many questions is a torture. It's okay when it's done for a week or two but doing it daily for two years is not my cup of tea. It feels like the Chinese torture in which a man is laid down and water drops fall on their foreheads. It doesn't sound painful but do it for days and you are guaranteed to go berserk.
Therefore, I won't participate in this sacrificial ritual. Now I quit this religion. I am on my own path and I have no desire for such heavens. I would rather explore the wonders of hell than enjoy the heavenly adobe.
